Life down here is an unlimited suffering. Something is wrong. There must be something we have not understood. We cannot be here just to suffer. At least that should lead somewhere, somehow at some point. What is the root of suffering? Ignorance. Ignorance of what we really are, ignorance of what we have come to do. And ignorance brings fear, and fear brings attachment to the tangible and we recognize ourselves through the feedback which our personality sends us.
So, we cling to the ego and create an identity to feel safe. Do we, however, feel safe or do we struggle for a lifetime in order to maintain the balance between the vital lies that we have elaborately built around us and all our energy is devoted to it? We turn a blind eye and we abandon ourselves. Entropy is downhill, it requires no effort. We run from working according to what our individuality – our real nature – dictates, in the hope that at some point death will end the pain and we will find relief.
Alas! We are not saved from death here because “everything that dies is reborn, while everything that is transformed lives forever”. We cannot escape without transformation. As long as we avoid it, we extend our stay here and the pain it brings. All sentient beings will eventually reach enlightenment. They are scheduled for this. We are destined for this. And this life down here is the wisest and most precious guru we have.
The four immeasurables
May all beings have happiness and the cause of happiness.
May they be free of suffering and the cause of suffering.
May they never be disassociated from the supreme happiness which is without suffering.
May they remain in the boundless equanimity, free from both attachment to close ones and
rejection of others.
